Counter Strike 1.6 game was designed as the first version of counter strike by valve which was sold at steam..
It is available for purchase here.
After 1.6, Counter strike source was released with better graphics and is available for sale here.
Presently the latest version counter strike global offensive was released in August 21st, 2012.
90% of counter strike servers found online have amxmodx/sourcemod installed in them which provides
various plugin for the servers.
With amxmodx one can install many mods in server, for eg: Deathmatch, Deathrun, Capture the flag, Zombie plague, paintball and many more.
